Innovative Autism Awareness and Early Intervention
We are Mindful Kings and Queens, an interdisciplinary Autism Awareness and Early Intervention Center based in Gonzales, LA. Since 2020 We have provided services to children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) We investigate novel concepts that underlie the complexities of our field providing guidance to find community resources and in home services and community-based services. Our foundation is supported by donations and funding from the government and several foundations.

According to the National Reading Panel (NRP) the chart below reflects the “Big Five”: phonemic awareness, phonic, vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Below are the different focuses of reading instruction. (Comprehensive reading instruction, optimizing reading instruction, and high- quality and broad- researching research and practice. The focus on literacy and ASD highlighted more often the nonverbal children with autism. In nonverbal children with ASD, verbal communication restrictions allow them to use other ways to communicate.

What is ASD? ASD is an early-onset neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social communication deficits and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior or interest (American Psychiatric Assocation, 2013). ASD is a common disorder and occurs in approximately one in 54 children (Maenner et al., 2020). Popular beliefs are that reading and talking are similar components to successful literacy. Although several studies have concluded that reading is a communal area of weakness for children with ASD.
Autism is not preventable however with early intervention it increases the chances of your King or Queen living a normal lifestyle.
How do you as a parent help?
Advocacy- You are your child's voice especially if he or she is nonverbal or limited verbal. It is important that you learn to communicate with your child to understand needs and wants as well as if he or she needs help or do not feel comfortable
Teamwork – together with the help of local organizations we will find a way to become the advocate that our children need and the voice that can no longer be silenced demanding awareness and help for our autistic children.
